Today was Justin's "vacation" day from church, so we decided to spend the day in the Shenandoah National Park. We went for a drive on the Skyline Drive and did a short three mile hike on the Appalachian Trail. When I told Camdyn that the Appalachian Trail was an ancient trail first cleared by Native Americans, her imagination went into overdrive! We looked for Indian Artifacts everywhere. We also decided that the trees painted with squares were painted by Pocahontas and her friends to mark the original path hundreds of years ago. What Allen family hike would be complete without a snake sighting? We also had a fun adventure when Justin got pulled over for speeding. He even managed to get out of the ticket by saying, "Officer, I am a minister and this is my only Sunday off." Unbelievable.
The video is Camdyn pointing out our Indian artifact findings. At the end, she is asking Nanny, our Indian Artifact expert, to help us decide what our discovery was once used for. We think it may have been an Indian Princess' hammer.

That's high praise for Nanny. Can't wait to know her response.
I believe this is an artifact from the period dating around 5,000 years ago. Notice how there is a ridge cut out. This was done so they could wrap cord around the rock and use it as a hammer or use it to crush nuts, etc. Camdyn has a good eye -just like her Nanny. I will leave her my collection.
