Yesterday was not the most stellar day in the history of our family. It started out as the first day of my first month "on service" as an attending at LeBonheur and then spiraled downhill. Justin was diagnosed with a rib fracture from a basketball injury the night before. Camdyn has some type of bizarre allergic conjunctivitis that came on quickly. Charlie started getting sick with a stomach bug. All of this had me a little down this morning, until God helped me find a some perspective. I was listening to my ritual morning NPR and heard the report about the bombings that took place in Bagdad yesterday. Here is the short recap: two women acted as suicide bombers at two different open markets in the city. One market was a "pet market" where family' visited as a type of unofficial zoo. Almost ninety people were killed, many of whom were children who were visiting the market on their school holiday. The most heartbreaking part of this story? The women "suicide" bombers were recognized as mentally handicapped women. For more details you can listen to the commentary on the link above which is the title of the blog.
So, our bad day doesn't seem so horrible after all.
(These pictures were both taken by Camdyn. )
